Samantha Sutherland

Samantha Sutherland is a textile artist based on Auckland’s Pohutukawa Coast. Her work blends free-motion embroidery with repurposed fabrics to create textured, expressive pieces that reflect personal resilience and the beauty of New Zealand’s natural environment. Samantha’s practice began during a time of deep personal challenge while caring for her daughter through two liver transplants. Art became a way to process, uplift, and reconnect. Her works range from native birds and coastal scenes to “positivity pictures” combining fabric offcuts and hand-stamped quotes. Each piece tells a heartfelt story of hope, healing, and the quiet power of creativity.
