helen keen

This series of tondo circular forms by Helen Keen in encaustic wax & mixed media incorporate solid encaustic wax, ash, stain, acrylic – framed in bespoke solid iron.
Viewers are invited to contemplate the translucency these hand formed impressions of liquid light offer and engage with this ancient medium. Creative intention is to evoke subtle nuances of playful connections to timelessness while activating senses of smell, and even touch.
Literally actioned into being with upwards of 50 layers of molten wax each layer is fused with naked flame, cured and polished to a sheen. The process requires intuitively surrendering and allowing this organic medium to be heard and seen in unexpected ways.
