Awaroa Cottage

Awaroa Cottage

Awaroa Cottage was slab built using Buff clay.
Each section was decorated when the clay was leather hard and then was fitted together using thin coils of clay and slip. It was fun thinking of what to add to the walls etc.
I only under glazed a few things on the cottage then dipped it in clear glaze to seal it.
I felt that by using minimal color the detail on the cottage would be more visible and not lost.
I cut a hole in the bottom to put battery tealight candles in to give it that extra feeling of warmth and homeliness.
In total I would have spent 15 hours creating Awaroa Cottage before it was bisque fired then glazed. The picture supplied shows it ready to be glaze fired so not quite finished.
