The Quickening

Wheel-thrown with white stoneware, the surface is hand-painted with underglazes, then finished with a clear glaze.
It explores the delicate threshold between the earthly and the ethereal.
The Quickening sits in the tension between decay and growth, a space where forms soften, break down, and inevitably give way to new life. I wanted to suggest that endings and beginnings are not separate events, but rather held within the same continuous unfolding.
I aimed to illustrate a soft, embedded quality, as if the butterfly and foliage are emerging from the clay itself, to celebrate the cyclical beauty of the natural world.
