Long Forgotten

In Long Forgotten, play as an essential part of childhood is shown as increasingly absent, overgrown and pushed into the background of contemporary life. The Bee, a symbol of play-based childhood in Aotearoa New Zealand, is partially obscured by ivy.
The ivy, known for its ability to wrap, cling and overtake, becomes a metaphor for how technology and modern systems can gradually cover and displace physical, imaginative forms of play.
The work asks what happens when these simple experiences of childhood are gradually replaced, and what we lose when play is no longer rooted in the physical world.
