Koroī on a Plate

Koroī on a Plate

Oil on board. Kahikatea berries koroi are a source of food for birds and were collected by tangata whenua for special events. The plate references my settler heritage. There are inherent contrasts between the Koroī and plate.
Koroī occur every few years on the female kahikatea.  Small peppercorn seeds, attached to the bright berries are carried by wind or birds to spaces outside the stand where light and water enable the seeds to germinate. The future of kahikatea depends on these small berries and space to grow.
