Ngā Tapuwae o Papatūānuku is a carved circular work that reflects the natural rhythms and enduring presence of Papatūānuku. The work features carved Undulating lines that mimic the textures and stretch marks of the earth, the marks left by time, growth, and change. The carved lines are filled with charcoal made from the remnants of the same tōtara used to create the piece, returning the tree to itself in a new form. This circular process speaks to renewal and whakapapa.
