Nui

Mālō e lelei, ko hoku hingoa ko Hūfia Taumoefolau. My lino print focuses on the strength and power of the coconut palm. “Known as the ‘tree of life’, locals make use of every part of the tree to survive – the fruit for eating, husks for fuelling fires, fronds for making multiuse baskets, and the trunk for building houses. In the Pacific, coconut is king.” In New Zealand sometimes being called a ‘coconut’ is an insult to Pasifika people, but I am proud to come from Tonga and I see the coconut as a symbol of power and resilience.
