Red earth, green shoots (2024)

Red earth, green shoots (2024)

I have lived below the Drury foothills for nearly three decades and has been photographing the earthworks occurring on the largest flood-plain in Tamaki Makaurau/Auckland since they began in 2020. Her works inspired by how these man-made and inevitable developments were manifesting in the landscape and attempting to reconcile a residents’ connection with the new ecological, geological and topographical directions.
The painting ‘Red earth, green shoots’ (2024) represents the contrast of foundation with disruption. The landscape is represented using distinct, bold colours and dynamic imagery, where sky, earth and novel planting collide at the intersection of change.
