Wildflowers by Design

This small gouache painting explores the resilient beauty of wildflowers set against a deep black background. By painting on dark paper , I wanted to create a dramatic contrast that makes the rich , opaque colours of the petals stand out.
Gouache was the perfect medium for this piece allowing me to layer velvety, matte colours that pop against a black surface. The small scale of the painting draws the eye into the intricate design of each wildflower.
