Patricia Holliss

Recently, I have been painting garden scenes – the place where nature connects with ordinary everyday life. I explore the effects of subject, colour and light plays upon positive emotions. In these artworks, nostalgic objects – wheelbarrows, watering cans and garden sheds replace the forest of my characteristic work. Critters, native birds and plants continue to feature.
I like to experiment with technique and style. Design, brush, water, paper and colour are tools used to push the boundaries of conventional watercolour techniques by combining a stylized, considered design with the spontaneity and surprise that is unique to the watercolour medium. Carefully controlled brushwork and fluid wet-in-wet techniques work together in my works.
