Simon Brown

Photographer Simon Brown, born in Pukekohe in 1958, enjoys life with his wife Alida, together they raised six children in the Waiuku area. These days they spend most of their time on the family block in the idyllic Mohakatino valley on the North Taranaki coast.
I was introduced to the world of female beauty in the early 60’s. At the age of four I was hopelessly in love with my mother. She was wonderful and warm, gentle and fun. Her lipstick sparkled in the morning sun and her curled hair bounced as she walked. She wore beautiful light summer dresses which hugged her athletic form, and she danced. I dedicate The Dancer mini-series to my mother Margaret.

The Dancer v1
Skirts held high against the tide
The barefoot dancer takes her place
Head tilt back and eyes closed light
She breathes aloud… and sways.
