A Unified Light

A Unified Light

I created this piece using oil paint, a medium I enjoy because of its depth and versatility in realism. I believe there is always more to an image that we can interpret. While painting this piece, I wondered about the women in the mirror and why they were there. When you look into a mirror, you see yourself, but that doesn\’t mean you can\’t see others. Not every face in a mirror will be familiar, but any face you see looking into a mirror will be your own. The faces in my artwork all have the same light, and that doesn’t mean those further back in the shadows are different. We all share a light, and we all share the potential to lose it. Through realism, I aim to awaken a sense of sonder in my viewers because I feel we are all overwhelmed by the speed the world is travelling, we forget how to experience such things.
