Swamp Kauri Guitars

These two instruments were both carved from the same slab of Swamp Kauri. The left-handed electric guitar has a strip of Wenge laminated through the neck, and on the headstock. The Ebony fretboard features copper inlays as fret markers, which ties in with the Wenge and copper control knobs. This guitar was built for my daughter and has her name on the headstock. The bass is also left-handed and is a 5 string multiscale bass. The neck is made from Tawa, with Rimu and Swamp Kauri laminations. The back of the body is made of end-grain Rimu. It features the same fret marker design as the guitar, except the fretboard is made of Ebony and Black Maire, with paua inlays. The paua theme continues around the edge of the guitar body. The pickups are rear mounted and sit 1.5mm below the surface of the body, so as to not cover that beautiful swamp kauri top. Gold frets and a brass nut combine well with the black hardware and strings.
