‘Lives Collide’ is an oil painting of people on the Paris Metro. The metro line went through three distinct areas – a business district, a working class area, and there was also a stop at a university. If you look closely at the painting you can see how the lives of all these distinctly different identifiable groups of people are colliding on the train. And yet, these people have a contained co-existence. I was particularly taken by the haunting expression on the face of the woman in the foreground and the wound on the man’s forehead. I wondered what these people have endured.
