Deborah Illingworth lives at Nireaha, a small hamlet near the wild and windy Tararua Ranges, and 10kms west of Eketahuna.
Her pictures have a pathos, a quiet sadness reminiscent of ‘the theatre of unease’ said to infuse New Zealand cinema. Her haunting landscapes have been compared to the South Island Regionalists, Rita Angus and Bill Sutton.
She has been selected seven times for the Adam’s Portrait Award.
