On Queen’s Birthday 1975 a hitchhiker went missing on lonely Matea Road off the Napier-Taupo highway.
She stands in the shadow of her attacker and in her final moments her world fractures and she is surrounded by jellyfish. Behind her a tornado approaches drawing up the car that carried her there into its vortex. In its grasp there are also sea creatures and a huia symbolizing the hitchhiker’s own imminent extinction.
