Mike Twaddle

In a visceral exploration of the human condition, my work sits on the boundary between the corporeal and the metaphysical, and blurs the line between the two.
I explore themes of mortality and the subconscious, with many of my works being a reflection of inner turmoil and existential enquiry, conveyed through vivid imagery and symbolic forms.

Recurrent use of hearts and skull forms, the dualities of life and death are echoed; Beauty and decay, love and pain, life and death. As skeletal forms tell of the fragility of life, hearts are often depicted to symbolise an emotional core of existence, each pulsing with a vibrancy and vulnerability. Branches twisting and tangled in angst, bring an organic element into my compositions, serving as a reminder of both life and decay simultaneously. Not just representations of fragility and the transient nature of existence, these also serve as a reminder of the resilience that coexists within the human spirit.

My compositions are intended to evoke an emotional response in the viewer, pulling them into a dialogue with the works. Combining elements of street art, surrealism and expressionism i aim to create a space where the uncomfortable truths of life can be seen, held and celebrated.
