I am fascinated by the artists of the Renaissance and this painting is in the style of “Chiaroscuro” (the study of light and dark). The subject makes reference to the times we are now all living in.
This piece was inspired by the sinewy shapes of our endemic tuatara in a backdrop of yin and yang and the contrast of night and day. The name tuatara is derived from the Maori language and means “peaks on the back”.
Whispering Woman is a contrasting piece with bright metallic gold and thick black interconnected lines while the subject of the painting is trying to be discreet. It represents those moments where you are attempting not to be noticed but in doing so become the central focus.
